The following audio message is from a dear brother of mine by the name of Ray Kelly, who is an elder at Calvary Chapel, Southampton, and also leads the home group I attend.
This is part of a series of messages which can be found at the church website linked above, but I would like to highlight this message in particular, as it comes strongly against the common tendency within the church that desires to become like the world in order to reach it with the Gospel.
Ray makes a clear argument that the exact opposite approach needs to be taken, where as Christians, we need to also share in the vow of the Nazirite, that is prepared to lay down a life of sacrifice before entering the joy to come.
Just had a fantastic time messing around on the guitars with my son, and realised just how much he’s progressed in such a small amount of time. Why do kids pick things up a gazillion times faster than us slightly well worn ones?
I just wanted to share a wonderful message I heard at our church fellowship today, preached on the Gospel of John, chapter 13. The preacher is Simon Lawrenson, who is head pastor at Calvary Chapel, Southampton, and who’s sermons I find to be a breath of fresh air here in the U.K.. I will possibly highlight various sermons here providing it’s okay with the fellowship, but you can listen to a whole archive of messages preached over recent years by clicking here to visit their website.
Ever since I first became aware of the shape shifting movement sometimes known as the emerging church, I have detested almost everything about it, but have not really been able to put my finger squarely upon why that is so. Through many of the online discernment ministries around now, I have gradually come to know some of the more prominent figures and viewpoints of this movement, but for me at least, Chris Rosebrough has placed my finger squarely on the pulse of this beast. Because of what he has opened up, the whole movement and its seemingly destructive mentality makes perfect sense, especially when seeing echoes of this in fairly recent history.
In this post I simply want to point to a couple of links that may be of interest to anyone with a similar unease to my own. One is to a recent article Chris Rosebrough wrote for his “Extreme Theology” blog, and the other is to an mp3 of his recent radio show for Pirate Christian Radio, where he explains more fully the reason for writing the article. Before anyone thinks this is just one man’s mission against emergence however, I would simply like to point out even at these links, what you will find are links to historical fact about an almost identical movement in Germany shortly after the first world war. A leading figure of this movement had a frighteningly similar manifesto as one Brian MacLaren today, who also had an overwhelming desire to see a deconstruction of historic Christianity, and the authority of the Bible be brought into question, in order that a “new” Christianity be revealed, which in truth was no Christianity at all.
Anyway, I will leave an mp3 player below containing the recent episode from Pirate Christian Radio [only about the first half is about this subject] , and also the link to the article I mentioned too. If you have time, please try listening to the mp3 shortly after reading through the article, or even while reading it, in order to make perfect sense.
I am so grateful that the Lord has led me to a place of Christian fellowship, where the Word of God is so central to all that is taught and proclaimed. The teaching is generally exegetical preaching, verse by verse through Scripture, and as a result, the Lord speaks by His own Word, in His own timing, to His own people.
At Calvary Chapel, Southampton, we are just coming to an end of the Gospel of John, preached by our senior pastor, Simon Lawrenson. The whole series of messages can be found by clicking the logo to the left of this post, however last weeks message can be heard directly below in its own player. The message was a particular blessing to me personally, and I hope that you are so blessed to.
It’s been my heart for some time now for the church to return to a solid grasp of the fundamentals of our faith in Christ. Here is an excellent message from John MacArthur that highlights those things that should quite honestly be beyond dispute, but in reality are the very core doctrines that are being challenged more and more on a daily basis by deceived Christians across the denominations.
Maybe it’s just me over reacting, or maybe it’s just the fact that I have been starved of the Word in the churches I have attended over the years, but I feel utterly blessed to find myself under the preaching in the fellowship I am now in at Calvary Chapel, Southampton. As much as I like the people there however, it is not so much for this reason, but that it feels to me that I am quite literally sitting and listening to Jesus Christ Himself speaking His words straight into my heart. Isn’t that how it’s supposed to be?
I could not attend church today for reasons beyond my control, but listening to this message I have been almost moved to tears at the thought of what my Lord and Saviour has done for me. Praise You Jesus!
The following player has the excellent Chris Rosebrough of Pirate Christian Radio, playing two sermons side by side that have been preached on the same Bible account. The first is a sermon from emergent pastor, Adam Walker Cleaveland, who has the audacity to preach that Jesus was wrong when speaking to the Syrophenecian woman, and was actually corrected by her.
I would also recommend anyone visiting to make a habit of listening to Chris Rosebrough’s podcast through his site, Fighting for the Faith, which has all the archived recordings from his Pirate Christian Radio show. As well as being entertaining and funny, he is skilled at weighing up messages preached against the Word of God, in order to evaluate their worth.
